Industrygamers.com makes Pax East sound like more fun than a barrel of monkeys, Jane McGonigal one of the leading alternate reality designers and all round interesting woman is going to be their keynote speaker. If there was nothing else there that would make it worth going. Check it out here.
Industrygamers.com also carried the news of another studio shutting down, MTV Games under Viacom. They didn’t make the sorts of titles that really drew me but its always sad to see someone go. Check it out here.
IGN.com decided to take a stab at figuring out how much ‘micro transactions’ are making Facebook games and comparing it to other games. The numbers are rougher than an alpha release but interesting nonetheless . Check it out here.
We’ve all had those moments. Keyboard snapping frustration not because you died but because you died and it just shouldn’t of happened! A large part of this comes from an improper understanding of a game’s rules making the world hard to work with. Gamasutra.com has an interesting article about how EA has said 500k subscribers would only be sustainably profitable for The Old Republic with what they have invested in it. In fact they have to break a million for it to be ‘Very profitable’. Now there’s alot of excitement about the game but a million isn’t going to come quickly. Warcraft took years to reach its 12 million(ish) mark. Check it out here.
Abcnews.go.com has a fascinating story about the first iPad only newspaper. Things like this have been around forever but with the spread of the iPad Rupert Murdoch might be positioned to gain even more power over the media. Check it out here.
Over at Technolog.msnbc.msn.com there is a great article covering the basics of how the Govinator is going after Video Games. I think the best comment I ever heard about the whole debacle was that if this passed you could sell a kid a Predator movie but you wouldn’t dare sell him a Predator video game. Check it out here.
