Thanks Canada

Canada has given us a lot of things to be thankful for. Just to name a few there’s the rotary snowplow, Tim Hortons, and of course Wayne Gretzky. Since today is Canadian Thanksgiving, I thought it would be nice to give thanks for everything Canada has done for video games.

Relic Entertainment

From Company of Heroes to Warhammer 40,000, Relic has been giving us some great games since the late 20th century.  However when people talk about Relic they will often overlook the game Homeworld. Being one of the leading causes of college drop outs during it’s time, Homeworld was one of the best RTS’s of all time. And that’s not just my opinion either. When Homeworld was released it received IGN, PC Gamer, and Well-Rounded Entertainment’s game of the year award is 1999.

Ubisoft Montreal

Wow I mean where to begin?  Ubisoft’s Montreal studio has a resume a kilometer long (cause Canada is metric) .  Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, the Splinter Cell series, Assassin’s Creed 2, the list goes on. For many of us, this studio first gained a bit of personality with the public debut of industry smoke-show Jade Raymond, producer of Assassin’s Creed.  These days, Raymond is Managing Director of Ubisoft’s Toronto studio. So really we should be thanking all of Ubisoft Canada.

Bioware

If I need to explain why we should be giving thanks to Bioware then you need to be beat and gagged with a geoduck you hoser! Bioware has proven time and time again that Canadians make the best story tellers. From Balder’s Gate to Mass Effect, Bioware is unmatched when it comes to creating a deep and engaging videogame story.

Fit Brains

Fit Brains(based in Vancouver) is an online brain fitness platform that combines a large portfolio of casual brain games, personalized tracking & recommendations, a motivational rewards system, and a variety of social features. They seamlessly blend entertainment, science and technology to create a truly casual experience, personalized to each user. Why should we be thankful for them eh? Well they employ our very own Kelly Aarons(Cadistra) and make it so that she can be fed and clothed. And a clothed podcaster is a happy podcaster. Now that I think of it they should give Kelly a raise. Oh, and a promotion! Or maybe even both…

About NinthBatter

NinthBatter(or Jack) was born in 1518 on the shores of Loch Shiel in the highlands of Scotland. Seriously though, Ninth is a small town geek born and raised although he does live in Los Angeles now. He’s been gaming since the SNES with “Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past.” He currently games on PC, Xbox, PS3, Nintendo DS, and the N-Gage(it’s a GameBoy and a phone!) He also has a Wii but currently uses it as a door stop. If you haven’t been able to figure it out, Ninth prefers to take a light-hearted and humorous approach to gaming. He also loves Pokemon…the handheld games…seriously.
