Morning Quickies – September 3rd, 2010

megaman1 Good morning, Polygamerites. Hope you’ve got big plans for the weekend. I know I sure don’t. I’ll probably just be gaming all weekend. :D

  • (1up) Among other sites, 1up has some exclusive gameplay footage of the upcoming Mega Man Universe. It … pretty much looks like 16-bit Mega Man? Guess it was time for the franchise to move forward after several 8-bit sequels. However, that’s definitely Ryu there at the end… and Gamespot’s video reveals "Bad Box Art Mega Man," who is, yes, that guy. Something things are better left unprogrammed.
  • (Square-Enix) The open beta for Final Fantasy XIV Online started a few days ago. Are you in? If so, come say hi – Rimunah Lafleurs, Mysidia realm.
  • (GameSugar) GameSugar’s review of Dead Rising: Case Zero calls it "a bit of playing out the survivor fantasy first implanted as a thought by Dawn of the Dead, with a mix of horror brevity and cheese to round out the ride." That’s pretty accurate. Xbox 360 owners, I’m actually jealous of your exclusive game for once. Be proud.
  • (NintendoLife) Ever wondered what franchises Japanese gamers most want on the new and upcoming Nintendo 3DS? If you guessed "Final Fantasy" and "Dragon Quest," congratulations, you win a prize (not really). Also making the list: Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D at #3, along with the usual suspects like the Gundam and Shin Megami Tensei franchises.
  • (Joystiq) It may support Move, but you’ll probably want it more because it was awesome: Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath is being re-released for the PS3 in 2011 with enhanced 720p visuals, more detailed models, remastered dialogue, and PlayStation Move support. Signs of life from Oddworld Inhabitants, maybe?
  • (Also Joystiq) Originally it was called Yuusha no Kuse ni Namaikida, then we finally got it in the form of Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! What Did I Do To Deserve This?, and finally it got lawsuited (it’s a verb now, shut up) to What Did I Do To Deserve This, My Lord?! around the time its first sequel came out. And now, the third game in the series, No Heroes Allowed, has actually been announced for the US. No release date yet, but SCEA is at least supporting the strange little dungeon-digging throwback PSP game series.
  • (Tiny Cartridge) Not really news about a game, but Tiny Cartridge is having the "Birthday Contest of the Forever" now. All you have to do is do some sort of work involving their mascot, Tiny, and you two can win loads of fantastic swag. I’m not sure what it says about me that Prize #2, which includes a copy of LovePlus, is the one I’d most like to win.
  • (Siliconera) Melinda from Siliconera recently interviewed Carpe Fulgur, the localization team behind Recettear. What is Recettear? It’s a doujin game that’s actually getting a US release – on Steam, no less, where if you pre-order now you’ll save two bucks, plus it has a demo – that mixes RPG action with running an item store. Recette Lemongrass inherits the item shop built into her house from her loan-skipping dad, and has to run it – either by playing the market in town to get goods to sell, or hiring local adventurers (who you play as well) to go into the dungeon and thrash monsters for treasure. Sounds like fun, no? Get Recettear.

About PhilU

Phil, better known as Stop from The Stoppable Force, has been blogging since 1999 and gaming for even longer than that. He is avidly polygamerous, splitting his time between a PC, PS3, PSP, and DSi, with a Dreamcast and an SNES hooked up and ready to go. (Resquiescat in pace, Xbox 360.) He is a fan of MMOs, JRPGs, action-adventure games, and is terrible at first-person shooters. Phil will talk your ear off about the Shin Megami Tensei series if you let him. Phil will be your friend on the PSN if you like – his PSN username is PhilCharisma.
